After drawing flak for relegating gays as “worse than animals,” senatorial aspirant and world boxing icon Manny Pacquiao on Tuesday reiterated his opposition against same-sex marriage, saying that homosexual acts are “detestable in God’s eyes.”

Noting that he has gay nephews and scholars, Pacquiao said he was not one to judge members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community, adding that condemnation was not part of his vocabulary.

“Para sa akin you’re insulting God if you’re doing that… That’s what happened sa Sodom and Gomorrah,” he added.

The Sarangani Representative said he was not worried if his controversial remark would cost him votes from LGBT members and supporters in the upcoming national elections.

“Alam n’yo po I don’t want to comprise my faith because I want salvation to my life. I don’t want to comprise na yung mali papanigan ko para iboto ako,” he said.

But Pacquiao, who is running under the opposition ticket of Vice President Jejomar Binay, said he would support the anti-discrimination bill should he be elected in the Senate.

“Of course I will support.

Nasa bible ‘yan, there is no condemnation. But we have explain to explain, to let them know the word of God, the commandment of God that you should follow… it is impossible for a nation to become successful or blessed without the guidance of the Lord,” he added.

Pacquiao, who earned the ire of netizens and celebrities including Vice Ganda and Boy Abunda, reiterated his apology to those offended by his remarks.

TVJ
