Authorities on Sunday morning identified the two drivers and two children involved in a deadly head-on crash on Des Moines' southeast side.
Des Moines police Sgt. Paul Parizek said in a news release that the crash happened at approximately 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the 3600 block of Southeast Army Post Road.
The responding officers and medics who arrived at the scene, found the wreckage of a
red Dodge pickup truck and a white Honda crossover-style SUV that had collided head-on.
The pickup was westbound on Southeast Army Post Road when it attempted to pass traffic.
The SUV was eastbound.
The driver of the truck, 28-year-old Ryan Rench, of Des Moines, was taken to the hospital in serious condition. He was the only person in the truck.
The driver of the Honda, 56-year-old Kathryn Kinley and 13-year-old Nariyo Lee, both of Des Moines, died in the crash.
Police also said 12-year-old Kaden Kinley, of Des Moines, was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Southeast Army Post Road was expected to be closed from the 3600 block through the 3800 block for about three hours, police said.
Police advised that drivers use an alternate route if traveling through the area.
