Wayne, who has been together with Tom for the past 17 years, spotted his partner in the crowd of celebrators on screen: 'Oh my god, that's you!'

Tom was seen throwing his arms around a uniformed police officer for a hug as the group of people around him cheered.

Tom described the moment to Wayne: 'I was crying, standing there crying and this policeman walked up to me and goes 'we're all here for you' and gave me a cuddle. It was very nice.'

Tom's voice began to crackle as he relived the moment he witnessed the history-making decision announced in real-time.

Sniffling back tears, he placed Wayne's arm around him for a cuddle as his partner gave him a kiss on the head.

'This is just 50 years of pent-up shame and s**t that you've got to ... finally today, that whole fear that everyone hates you and doesn't accept you is not true,' he added.

Melbourne couple Wayne and Tom found themselves getting emotional over a certain scene in Married At First Sight late last year.

Wayne teared up as he spoke of his mother, who had passed away: 'It's the one thing she wanted, was to see us married, and we're never going to get to do it.'

Tom replied that they 'can one day', with the moment resonating with the show's thousands of fans, who found it moving and honest.
