Footballers Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis have welcomed a baby boy into the world.
Australian national team and Chelsea striker Kerr and Mewis, who plays in National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Gotham FC and Team USA, announced the arrival of their baby in an Instagram post on Thursday (8 May).
Captioned “Our little man is here, Jagger Mewis-Kerr,” the couple shared a photo of themselves cuddled together, with their baby boy sleeping on Kerr’s chest.
The couple, who confirmed their engagement in November 2023, were previously defended by LGBTQ+ organisation Chelsea Pride after receiving homophobic abuse following their baby announcement.
However, their post announcing Jagger’s arrival has been flooded with love.
Many people took to the comments to congratulate the family, with one person writing, “The cutest family ever.”
Another joked about the baby’s iconic name, commenting, “Has anyone said ‘moves like Jagger’ yet, or no?”
In February, Kerr thanked Mewis after being found not guilty of causing racially aggravated harassment for calling a police officer “stupid and white”, after he doubted the her claim the pair were “held hostage” in a taxi.
The pair have also spoken about the importance of their relationship being out and visible in football as LGBTQ+ people.
“I think just being out and being two girls in love, I think if we can change one or two people’s lives and the way that they feel about each other and how comfortable they feel,” Mewis told Gaffer.
“I love to share my relationship on social media. So I think if we can change the way one or two people feel about themselves, they can look at us and see that we’re happy and we’re trying to be as successful as we can and we’re an out gay couple. I think that that’s so important.”
