      Cincinnati native and Louisville head men’s basketball coach Pat Kelsey was in the spotlight before the Cincinnati Reds’ game against the Chicago White Sox on Thursday.Celebrating his birthday, Kelsey threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Reds’ eventual win.Kelsey took the Louisville job before the 2024-25 season after previously coaching at the College of Charleston for three seasons. He made two NCAA Tournaments with Charleston.Kelsey attended Roger Bacon High School in Cincinnati for three years, before he transferred to Elder High School for his senior season in 1993 and was part of the team that won the Division I state championship.Kelsey started his college playing career at the University of Wyoming before transferring to Xavier and playing with the Musketeers from 1995-98.From 2001-04, Kelsey served as director of basketball operations at Wake Forest before becoming assistant coach at the school from 2004-09.In 2009, Kelsey returned home as associate head coach for Xavier under former head coach Chris Mack.Kelsey signed an extension with Louisville last month after guiding Louisville to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019.
