GHAZIABAD: Three persons were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the murder of a Delhi-based Aam Aadmi Party worker, Naveen Das, who was found charred to death in his car on Tila Mor-Bhopura road in Sahibabad on the night of October 4.
According to police, Das was in a homosexual relationship with one of the accused, Tayyab (25), and had also been coercing him into a live-in relationship.
Das had also purportedly made some obscene videos of Tayyab and was threatening to make them public, if he did not live with him.
Tayyab, an event manager and a resident of Muradnagar, resented this and along with his two accomplices—brother Talib and friend Samar Khan—made a plan to rob and murder Das.
“It’s not only a case of murder but also of kidnap and robbery. The three killed Das in a brutal way by burning him alive inside his Maruti Brezza in pre-planned conspiracy,” said SSP Vaibhav Krishna.
Das and Tayyab were in a relationship for the past two years and were quite inseparable, the SSP said. “They had met at a gay party and started their relationship. Soon after they became friends and jointly started organizing gay parties in Delhi. While Das was quite well-off, Tayyab was dependent on the former for his financial needs.”
Das, who lived alone in a flat in Chattarpur, of late started pressuring Tayyab to have a live-in relationship. However, the latter did not want their relationship to become public. “When Tayyab did not show any interest in a live-in relationship, Das started blackmailing him saying he would tell Tayyab’s family about their relationship. This apart, Tayyab was also facing a financial crunch. So he decided to kill Das and take over his wealth,” the SSP said.

On the night of October 4, Tayyab asked Das to meet him in Loni around 11 pm. Once Das reached there, Tayyab and his two accomplices sat in the former’s car. Das was then offered drug-laced halwa. Once he became semi-conscious, Tayyab took his ATM cards and his net banking account details from him and transferred Rs 7 lakh in his account in a series of several transactions.
The accused then poured petrol on him and set the car on fire with Das still inside. Samar had badly burnt his hand in doing so. While fleeing, the accused had stolen Das’s iPhone, passport and other documents.
